Johana’s Story

When she was only 4 years old, Johana Minda faced open-heart surgery to repair a congenital hole in her heart. Without this operation, her life expectancy was very short.

The $2500 cost for her surgery would be a bargain price in the United States, but for her parents, who struggle to earn enough to feed their family, it was more than they could ever dream of earning.

Johana’s story is a touching account of how these parents struggled to save their daughter’s life. It is also an eye-opening example of how the healthcare system works in many developing countries.
